For acupuncture, I use hair-width, sterile, disposable needles which are typically inserted and then removed immediately. I also frequently use moxibustion which involves burning small cones of the herb artemesia vulgaris (also known as mugwort); the moxa warms and nourishes the acupuncture point and enhances the benefit of needling. I will sometimes ask you to do some homework before your next treatment as we are partners in restoring your innate health, well-being, and vitality.
Frequency of treatment depends on many factors such as the duration and severity of illness, your overall health, and lifestyle choices. Weekly visits are highly recommended at the beginning of treatment, and you may start to feel better by the second or third visit. When symptoms have subsided and you are feeling better overall, we will gradually space treatments out (ie every two weeks, then every month, etc.) as long as you continue to feel well. There may be times of illness, stress, life change, or loss when more frequent visits are warranted. Once you feel fully balanced and in good health, coming in every season is recommended for maintenance of health and wellness.
If you are under the care of other providers such as medical doctors, naturopaths, or mental health professionals, I would like to collaborate with them so that we are all working toward your best possible health.
